Crew Tide
Recently we were featured on the Crew Tide blog. It’s a company focused on exploring…
how independent filmmakers help brands tell their stories and reach new audiences for a fraction of the cost.
We met Crew Tide’s founder, Anna Callahan at SXSW. She asked us if she could do a short interview with us because our body of work falls so squarely within what she is doing. A couple of days later we did a phone interview. Now it’s up. Check it out.
Excerpt:
Jeremey Lavoi and Abby Berendt run Jaded Multimedia, a production company in San Francisco. Most of their work is short-form non-fiction branded content. They work with about a dozen freelancers so that when they have too much work, they know they can handle it — that’s a good problem to have…
There’s even a little Rough Life shout out. (Stay tuned, the second season premiere is approaching.)
In other JADED news, we have just come off of a ROLLER COASTER. After we got back from Austin/ Baton Rouge for the SXSW/ Pandora/ Rough Life extravaganza, we jumped right into the San Francisco International Film Festival. If you’ve been following the blog, then you’ve seen some of those pieces. We’re looking forward to a post-fest meeting with the great San Francisco Film Society staff next week. The fest was fun, but right after we set-up the production schedule with the Film Society, Jeremey was booked as a Producer/ Shooter on Discovery Health’s, Addicted. He was immediatly shipped out to parts unknown and embedded with a drug addict 24/7 for almost two weeks. Craziness ensued. We’d love to talk more about it, but unfortunatley we cannot. Suffice it to say, it was quite an experience. He got back just in time to for the final few days of SFIFF (and more importantly the Filmmakers Lounge on Fillmore). More to come.
Wrapping up the @SFIntlFilmFest with the @SF_FilmSociety
The last couple of weeks have been incredible. Without a doubt, we at TeamJaded have had more fun than we could have ever imagined. Working with a fabulous team from the SF Film Society, including Ben Zweig, Linda Butler, Michael Read, Joslyn Thoresen, Joanne Parsont, and too many others to name, we created the daily videos titled “Scoop du Jour.” See a handful of the fruits of our labor below. Click the image at the bottom to view ALL the videos! All the videos were shot by Abby Berendt Lavoi, Ben Youngerman, and Jeremey Lavoi, (with a couple of shots by Deniz Demirer) and edited by Ben Zweig. Also thanks to Dalan McNabola for hooking us up.
Rolling the the JADEDs
Check out this talk we worked on a couple of weeks ago for Pandora. It features Geisha J. Williams, Executive Vice President, Electric Operations at PG&E. She was interviewed for the Women in Business series. This job was interesting for us because it came together rather quickly. We found out about it less than an hour before the talk was scheduled to start at Pandora HQ in Oakland. If that wasn’t challenge enough, we were still on the road post-SXSW. In fact, we were in Louisiana literally packing our car to head back to San Francisco.
The circumstance really put to the test our claim that we as a company can spring into action anywhere, anytime, and get it done for our clients. We made some calls and Ben Youngerman sprang into action. He swooped in to Pandora literally minutes before the talk started. He then proceeded to knock out a two camera shoot solo, saving the day for all.
We got back to San Fran a few days later and picked up the drive. Then Jeremey cut the piece for our friends on the WIB team. Another good project in the can.
We are keeping busy right now. Our time since SXSW has been ACTION PACKED. We filmed another performance at Pandora with our “best friend” K. Flay. Hopefully that will be up soon. We’re also working with the San Francisco International Film Festival to produce daily “scoop” coverage at the fest. Production for that starts today. Through StoreFront Political Media, we worked on a :30 sec spot for Phil Ting’s campaign for California Assembly. And, and, and… Rough Life is in the que. Season 2 starts soon.

Let it begin, off the road into SXSW
We made it into Texas yesterday after 3 days on the highways listening to outlaw country.
We pulled into Austin around 10pm and headed straight for the Yellow Jacket Social Club.

We hung with our friend and host Amy Mullins, ate some delicious food, and then head back to Amy and Shannon’s house to pack it in for the night.
When we got there, this was waiting for us. Rad.
It’s a Rough Life koozies. Be at the party to get one.
Dispatches from I-10
Quick update from the JADED squad. We are on the road for ATX, headed for SXSW. If you’re going to be down there, hit us up. We hope you make it to our party on Monday. As of right now we’ve got over 800 RSVP’s!
Travel, travel, travel. We made it all the way to Phoenix the first day, but then got bogged down in construction yesterday. The good news is that Cracker Barrel’s new sweet potato pancakes are awesome.
Free Rough Life party @SXSW RSVP
If you haven’t heard, we are premiering Season 2 of It’s a Rough Life at SXSW on Monday, March 12. We’re throwing the party at the Yellow Jacket Social Club, which just so happens to be partially owned by our great friends Shannon LeBoeuf and Amy Mullins. The party is a happy hour from 4-8pm. Johnny Rough is spinning records. We’re going to show the first episode of the new season, play the first season in its entireity, and maybe another special vid. RSVP HERE.
We’ve got to give a special shout out to Shrewgy at Ace Skateboard Truck Mfg, for hooking us up with trucks to give away. Stunner of the Month is also making an appearance with a grip of new, special stunners. Our friends at SLUG Magazine in Utah came through with boxes of mags for the swag bags as well (Thanks to Angela, Karamea, and Eric).
We also have to thank Abita Brewery for donating beer. They’ve been super easy to work with, and we’re psyched to have them at the party. (Special thanks to Megan for making that happen for us).
The Original Moonshine Whiskey will also be in the house for all those looking to imbibe on some high end spirits. They’re free! We made that connection through Sponsorfied. Check it out if you’re throwing a party.
Come to our party if you’re in Austin! No badges! We want to see you there. Come drink with us, hang with Mr. Roughneck, and watch lots of Rough Life new and old.
We’ve spent the last couple of weeks using all our spare time to get the party and premiere ready. That included a solid week of reaching out to sponsors. Oh my god, is it hard work to lock down sponsors? Yes. Can we say crickets? Well we rocked it anyway.
Our crazy rush to the finish also included a marathon four day shoot of spinal interviews and pick-ups with the RNCK family.
We couldn’t have done it without Mr. Ben Youngerman who not only spent a solid day shooting with us, but donating his 5D for the remainder of the shoots.
Ben is awesome. He’ll be at the party as well. Say hi to him and say hi to us. We’re editing the episodes and tying up a few loose ends now. Wish us luck. We can’t wait to hit the road for ATX! See you there. RSVP.
It’s a Rough Life Happy Hour @SXSW 2012
It’s Wednesday morning at JADED HQ and we are spending another day knee deep in sending emails. Yep that’s right, we decided to forgo video production for a few days so that we can work on our carpal tunnel syndrome. Marketing here we come.
If you haven’t heard, and you probably haven’t because we haven’t exactly been blasting it, we are throwing a party for It’s a Rough Life at SXSW 2012. It’s going to be the most epic happy hour for a web series that’s ever been thrown. Be there. March 12 at the Yellow Jacket Social Club, ATX. It’ll go from 4-8pm. Mr. Roughneck is spinning records. And best of all we will be premiering a new episode, the first of Season 2! Consider this the soft reveal of the party and expect a bigger and better one soon.
Now all we have to do is cut the thing… and oh wait, get sponsors for the party.
We’ve spent the last week putting together the most amazingly professional sponsor package. We’ve spent the last two days emailing it out to all the brands we think would be a perfect fit. Check back in to find out how all of that goes. In the meantime we need more sponsors. Is that you? Is that your company? We need a beer brand, a liquor brand, and a big brand to help us rent out the venue and pick up some of the travel costs. Come on, who doesn’t want to be a part of the It’s a Rough Life Happy Hour, Season 2 Premiere @ SXSW 2012?
In teamjaded land…
We are doing lots of scheming. It’s that time of year when planning is important, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been keeping busy as well. We were at Pandora last week shooting a talk for their Women in Business series.
The talk was with Lisa Kavanaugh, the Chief Product and Technology Officer at Ask.com.
We aslo hit up the 11th Annual Final Cut Users Supermeet. We showed up early and screened our It’s a Rough Life promo in their open screen theater.
You’ll recognize Johnny saluting the crowd in the vendor area. We then checked out all the new gear, and got a close look at Canon’s new C300. Drool. Unfortunately we did not make it to the presentation stage, instead opting for dinner in Dogpatch. We totally planned to go back… just didn’t happen. Word on the ‘net is that the highlights included CS6 and a change in name for the User Group.
Pandora Presents: Portugal. The Man
The last couple days we cut three videos for Pandora. It’s a pretty cool series called “Pandora Presents” where Pandora (along with Budweiser) put on a free concert for fans of the band. Basically, if you make a Pandora station for, let’s say “Portugal. The Man” and you live in the city where they’re hosting the show… then they’ll send you an email and you get to go see that band for free. Rad, right? This was their second concert in New York City with Portugal. The Man; the first was with the band Dawes in Portland, OR. Check out the spots by clicking the image below. Yes, since it’s brought to you by Budweiser, you’ll have to put in your birthday. So as long as you were born January 25th, 1991 you can watch these. And with that statement making me feel old, go watch some videos:
Part of the fun with this project was the Color Correction / Grading. Exciting times with Magic Bullet! We were going for a dreamy, saturated look. What do you think?
Before - & - After
Rough Life gearing up
So, we’re a little more than halfway through January. For the JADED team that means that we’ve wrapped up our annual corporate gig early in the month. Now we’re planning the way we want our year to go. January is traditionally slow while our clients plan their own strategies for the year. Luckily this year is heating up and we’re already busier in January than we’ve been in previous years. However, we are still trying to carve out some time for our own projects. That brings us to It’s a Rough Life. If you remember, we closed out the year with end of the Phoenix Arc.
Johnny’s wife Paola got RNCK ink, and there was a banging teaser for the next season, which will be centered around the epic BART 2011.
Our plan for Rough Life is to kick it up a notch and go for the TV pilot. TV has always been the plan, so we need to carve out our pitch strategy. What the means for the web show is that it will be more developed and focused on the company. We plan to take all that footage we have from BART Tour and build out the episodes in such a way that gives the viewer a real taste of Johnny’s struggle to keep Roughneck afloat, and also to illustrate what that means to his family. Wish us luck, and stay tuned for more. In the meantime enjoy another look at two of our favorite episodes. The one posted above, and this episode from the SLC arc when Johnny learns that his sale’s rep doesn’t necessarily have his back.
Now we’ve got some planning to do.
