Rough Life gearing up

So, we’re a little more than halfway through January. For the JADED team that means that we’ve wrapped up our annual corporate gig early in the month. Now we’re planning the way we want our year to go. January is traditionally slow while our clients plan their own strategies for the year. Luckily this year is heating up and we’re already busier in January than we’ve been in previous years. However, we are still trying to carve out some time for our own projects. That brings us to It’s a Rough Life. If you remember, we closed out the year with end of the Phoenix Arc.

Johnny’s wife Paola got RNCK ink, and there was a banging teaser for the next season, which will be centered around the epic BART 2011.

Our plan for Rough Life is to kick it up a notch and go for the TV pilot. TV has always been the plan, so we need to carve out our pitch strategy. What the means for the web show is that it will be more developed and focused on the company. We plan to take all that footage we have from BART Tour and build out the episodes in such a way that gives the viewer a real taste of Johnny’s struggle to keep Roughneck afloat, and also to illustrate what that means to his family. Wish us luck, and stay tuned for more. In the meantime enjoy another look at two of our favorite episodes. The one posted above, and this episode from the SLC arc when Johnny learns that his sale’s rep doesn’t necessarily have his back.

Now we’ve got some planning to do.

Ride the lightening means…

After the van debacle, the Roughnecks finally make it to the last day of PHX AM just in time for Johnny to “donate” all their swag (including his wife Paola’s favorite shirt) to a mob of little kids. Paola is completely bummed out by this and the only thing that can make her feel better is getting inked…

This is the season finale of It’s a Rough Life! Don’t worry, we’ll be back with lot’s more antics from the Roughneck squad after the holidays. In the meantime enjoy the closing chapter of Phoenix Am 2010.

It’s a Rough Life Episode 8: Get in the Van

Thursday means a new Rough Life. This week we continues the Phoenix Saga with the crew stuck in a Motel 6 parking lot with a broken down rental van… just in time to miss best trick.

It’s a Rough Life, a reality series about Johnny Roughneck.

In this episode of It’s a Rough Life, it’s the third day of Phoenix Am and Ratface is ready for best trick. Unfortunately the crew is having a little trouble getting to the contest.

This was a great morning for Jeremey who woke up ready to get to the contest to film for ESPN what was promising to be a pretty epic best trick. Then the van broke down. During Johnny’s raging about the broken down van, he suggested that someone call Lowcard who was in town, and then at least some of the crew could get to the contest. Nevermind that also meant some of the crew would not get to the contest. So Jeremey called Lowcard Rob who politely declined to dig any of the Roughneck Squad out of their debacle. He laughed and said, “y’all will figure it out”.

Pretty funny, even at the time. Did they figure it out? Watch the episode.

It’s a Rough Life Episode 7: Get That Roughneck

It’s Thursday, and that means a new It’s a Rough Life. This episode begins the second half of the Phoenix Arc. In our opinion, it’s where you really start to see Johnny’s personality come through. By this point in the trip, the Roughneck crew was more comfortable with having a camera around and were finally letting their guards down. The interaction with Matty P is priceless, and we even get some bites from Paola. Watch it and see.

In this episode of It’s a Rough Life, Josh’s qualifying run is done, Ratface’s run is coming up, and Johnny is still missing. Cue the hype man Matty P to “get that Roughneck”. Can he get Johnny out of bed?

If you haven’t seen Episode 6, you should check it out. It will give you the background on Josh’s run.

It’s a Rough Life Episode 3: Roughside of Utah Finale

It’s a Rough Life, a reality series about Johnny Roughneck.

In Part 3 of Johnny’s adventure to Salt Lake City, the “Rough side of the Traxx” heads to the Wave, but the Roughneck crew has a little trouble on the way. Eventually the skating goes off at the Wave, and then the contest rolls to the U where the Salt Lake City skaters take turns throwing tricks down a big set of stairs. After the last spot it’s off to the afterparty behind the Fice Boutique for the winners ceremony.

It’s a Rough Life Episode 1: Roughside of Utah Pt.1

It’s a Rough Life, a reality series about Johnny Roughneck.

Johnny flies to Salt Lake City to host “Rough Side of the Trax” — his event where kids barge the trains to skate spots across the city. In this episode we see behind the scenes leading up to the event, check out his Utah digs, meet the SLUG Magazine (Salt Lake Underground) crew, and get hyped for the event.

It’s a Rough Life: Roughside of the Trax Complete

It’s a Rough Life, a reality series about Johnny Roughneck.

Johnny flies to Salt Lake City to host “Rough Side of the Trax 2″ — his event where kids barge the trains to skate spots across the city. This is the complete story arc, a combination of three webisodes.

On day one, check out the behind the scenes leading up to the event and see Johnny’s Utah digs. Then Johnny heads to SLUG Magazine (Salt Lake Underground) to meet the crew. On day 2, the “Rough side of the Trax” contest gets started. But not without some drama with one of Johnny’s Sales Reps who shows up riding the competition’s product. After that is sorted out, the Roughnecks head to registration and then all the riders head out to the train and the first spot, Dead Goat Ledge. Then it’s on to the Wave, but the Roughneck crew has a little trouble on the way. Eventually the skating goes off at the second spot, and the contest rolls to the U where the Salt Lake City skaters take turns throwing tricks down a big set of stairs. After the last spot it’s off to the afterparty behind the Fice Boutique for the winners ceremony.

New It’s a Rough Life, headed to Phoenix @aroughlife

In this episode of It’s a Rough Life, the Roughneck crew hits the road for Phoenix, Arizona for Cowtown Phoenix Am. It’s an all night drive with a pit stop at the local “hater nation” coffee shop to skate some rocks, and then a session at one of Arizona’s gorgeous rest stops. All they have to do after that is make it the contest and set-up the tent…

We’ve got lot’s more in store. Enjoy

@aroughlife Let the Phoenix Saga begin!

Today we start the Cowtown Phoenix Am story arc on It’s a Rough Life. It’s a six episode arc that will take Johnny and his crew through some pretty entertaining situations (we hope). And there might even be some skateboarding.

In 2010, Roughneck Hardware was a junior sponsor at the infamous Cowtown Phoenix Amateur skateboard contest. Phoenix Am, as it is known, is a proving ground for up and coming rippers. It’s also just the type of place a struggling company like Roughneck could claim real legitimacy. So after a little bit of scheming Johnny got a van, a photographer, and two of his riders in the contest. He also brought his wife and a personal hype man.

If you watch the episode you’ll notice that Johnny is headed to Phoenix Am 2010. The Phoenix material is actually the original pilot material for It’s a Rough Life. It came about, because after years of documenting Johnny’s company we realized that it was worth trying to take it a step further and make it show. Jeremey and Roughneck were both headed to Phoenix Am that year. Jeremey was going to shoot the contest for ESPN.com, and Roughneck was going for the reasons stated in the video (riders in the contest, build hype for the company). It presented a great opportunity to get in a van with the squad and get some great footage. (If we had been able to neglect the contest a little more, we could have gotten even more!) This episode sets up events for the next few. We hope you enjoy it.

In other Rough Life news, we also posted a “complete arc” version of the Roughside of the Trax 2. Its all three webisodes combined into one short film (for all those wanting more than four minutes of new Rough Life per week). It was posted today as well.
