Mesmerizing Videos. Sculpture, Space, & Spirals.
Sometimes you just have to slow down. These three videos are not only inspiring, but mesmerizing. They’ll suck you in.
An audiovisual soundsculpture, reacting to the sound of Amon Tobin’s Foleyroom, at Milwaukee Art Museum.
This video was entirely made out of photographs. There is not a single “live” video shot in it. Visnjan Observatory is situated in the western part of the Istrian peninsula. It is part of the picturesque city of Visnjan. During the past 15 years, Visnjan became one of the world’s most prolific discovery sites for the small bodies in the Solar System.
This one is long. It was apparently the backdrop for a “robotic & live music performance.” If you don’t have time for it all, I suggest scrolling through to 4:45.
This is a little space opera : a mesmerizing choreography evoking atoms, DNA, seeds, spirals, fractals, etc… inspired by Anaxagoras of Clazomenae. philosophy.gr/presocratics/anaxagoras.htm
George Lucas Strikes Back
We just wrapped a project with Institute for the Future and are already knee deep in another project with a PR firm. As such, we were having a little trouble figuring out what to blog about this morning when we stumbled on this video over coffee and reddit.
If only it were true. If you enjoyed that, check out the rest of Slick Gigolo’s youtube channel.
UNDERCITY
This film awakens our inner explorer.
Directed by Andrew Wonder and featuring Steve Duncan of undercity.org, it was
shot on a canon 5d mkii with canon 24 f/1.4 (version 1) with the zacuto rapid fire, Zoom H4N and a sennheiser g2 wireless lav.
Enjoy. For more info about the film and filmmakers head here.
Lift Off
We love space! Space Shuttle Endeavours last flight… This came from a pretty cool vimeo channel, SpaceVideo.
Roll a D6
A friend of the family from Abby’s home town of Greeley, CO made this awesome D&D music video spoof. Amazing production value for a viral, and we LOVE the time stamp! Go Connor Anderson!
Austin Trip Home: La Pics and La Posada
Before we left Austin to head back to the Bay, we picked up a few of the things our friend Julie asked us to bring back for her. Shannon (arm above) kept all the food. The bulk of it was swag from sxsw, a couple of inflatable couches, and this pink flamingo:
We tweeted picks of Flamingo’s trip across the US. Here’s a special one after we had breakfast in Fort Stockton (above).
This is La Posada. We booked it randomly as it was affordable and near Meteor Crater. We had no idea what we had gotten ourselves into.
La Posada is a hotel/ museum of art, artifacts, and just plain weirdness. It’s huge.
Many famous people from the 1930′s and 40′s stayed in this once famous hotel. We stayed in the Roy Rogers Room because the Shirley Temple Room was already booked. (Not really, they just gave us the Roy Rogers Room) The hotel closed down around the 50′s and became an office building for a railroad company for decades. Then it sat unused and deteriorated for years. It wasn’t until 1997 that some rich guy bought it to help preserve the historical building and help rebuild the town of Winlsow, Arizona. Yes, the one the Eagles sing about standing on a corner and a girl in a flat bed truck.
We weren’t suppose to take pictures of the art. Oops.
It’s pretty good stuff though, so if you like it, check out Tina Mion. She’s quite versatile, political, and tons of her work was displayed throughout La Posada.
Outside of La Posada there were some donkeys…
… and a camel which became friends with Flamingo.
Then… we went to…
This meteor (well, this is part of the mostly incinerated meteor)…
… created this:
It’s really, really, really, big.
Abby had fun.
See, she’s smiling.
Jeremey enjoyed the view.
It was incredibly windy. They canceled all the walking tours because they didn’t want the wind to knock anyone down into the massive hole.
Flamingo did not enter the crater.
We did not eat this. But Denny’s sure knows what Americans like. Bacon + Ice Cream = America.
The trip back was amazing. Good weather, beautiful scenery. Austin to the Bay, it was a great March 2011.
Everything is a Remix
We’re developing a couple of projects right now and part of that process has been scanning the interwebs for inspiration. Early on, we happened upon Everything is a Remix, a video series dealing with inspiration (and imitation) in the arts. The basic thesis is that all art is derivative, but the videos are far more entertaining than that. We think you will like them.
There are two more videos scheduled to drop in the next few months. You can donate to keep the project alive here.
The 7D shoots photos too… who knew?
For the last couple of days I’ve been shooting black and white photos with the 7D and our Zeiss lens. Here’s a few artsy office shots from JADED HQ and the Roughneck office.
Rolling with the updates

UPDATES: We did a shoot for the Sierra Club last Thursday to commemorate their blocking of the 150th coal plant. We were happy to help with such a worthy cause, we’ll post the video when it’s up.
After we dropped the footage off at Fed Ex on Friday, we headed down to LA with our friends Whit and Claire to help Whit with his first feature film “Rolled“. It’s a documentary style narrative about a crew of high school kids who toilet paper houses in Claremont. We think it’s going to be awesome.

Saturday was one of the first days of production and mostly consisted of Whit (above) doing a prelimanary interview with his friend Kevin (below) who is one of the main characters (and who also happened to be playing a show that day).

We recorded Kevin’s show as a favor to him. Abby was on the A1, Jeremey on the 7D.

This is Whit monitoring audio, and happens to be one of my favorite shots from the day.

We are also busy at work on our own documentary project, which is shaping up to be about people preparing for life after oil. Research is running deep at the moment. We’re looking for interesting characters who are currently working on solutions for living after the oil crash. Those people could be survivalists, urban farmers, bike activists, etc. At this point we’re looking for charismatic, passionate, and knowledgeable people who are DOING SOMETHING that is visually interesting (preferably in the Bay Area/ greater NorCal for now). Let us know if that’s you or if you know anybody.
