On Friday we covered the premiere of Thrive in Richmond, CA for MediaOne. It was an interesting night filled with vegetarian food, enthusiastic people, and a provocative film. We won’t say much more about the film here because you can watch it on the website, and we encourage you to do so.
The Thrive website is an accomplishment in and of itself. Twelve years of research went into it. The fact check section is particularly interesting. From the site you can also learn how to host a screening, rent the film, or “play it forward” by renting it for someone.
In the end, whether you agree with all the points made in Thrive or not, the filmmakers goals are about positive social change through a more equal and environmentally conscious society. More importantly, they’re offering a road map for how to get there by giving people specific actions to take. That is a step further than many activist films, which get caught up in examining the negative aspects of society without offering solutions. Thrive attempts to move the audience forward. We hope that’s something everybody can agree with.
